Sexy ~ Tense ~ Fun
This was my first go with the Beautiful series by Christina Lauren and I really enjoyed it. Part of my enjoyment came from the writing style and cadence, the other from the expert narrating by Grace Grant.
I don’t believe this story was meant to be high-caliber and that’s a good thing. It wasn’t junk, either, thankfully. The writing and story fall into the refreshing category of “just sit back and enjoy it for what it is.”
The characters and relationship are flawed, which I always find refreshing (who can relate to perfect, right?). The flaws result in life challenges and tough decisions. Is it obvious where things will go? Of course; this is book one of a well-loved series. The good news is this is a quick, fun, sexy read/listen. It reminded me of Moonlighting (is anyone around here old enough to remember that show?). The two main characters have a love/hate/lust relationship and is not cheesy or flowery in any regard.
As far as Grace Grant’s narration goes, she is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators. I’ll have a post coming up getting into her body of works but just know that if you see her name associated with a book you’re contemplating, you are in good hands.
