I wasn’t sure what to expect when I saw the title, but I am a Willow Aster fan and was excited for a new book from her. This book defiantly was more than the title.  Lilith is a whore but that is not all she is. She didn’t choose the life and is doing everything she can to escape it.

Blood Beyond Darkness was the perfect ending to a series. It’s almost after you get through book three that you can finally sigh with relief that the intensity is going to ramp up one last time with the ending on the horizon.

I was excited to hear Callie Dalton narrating because she really does have a great grasp of Zapata's stories and characters. She adds a lot to the story and I recommend checking her out.

But the story...I wanted to love it.

Our thoughts...

I'm starting to realize that reading all of Zapata's books in a row is a mistake. I enjoy them; they're cute and so funny, but they follow an almost identical formula. I'm not going to break it down because it feels too critical for something I still enjoyed, but the repeated outline is becoming more and more obvious.

Our thoughts...

This duo wrote the best book. I haven’t laughed so much in a long time and really needed it. Sarina Bowen is an author I love, and I have never read Tanya Eby before. This is an instance where the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” applies. I am not a huge fan of the cover but the story was so good!

I have been pumping out this series like nobodies business as it’s on KU atm! This third installment was great. The characters were on my mind all day at this point. Every spare moment I had I wanted to spend it with them, and that says something!

SUMMARY:

Nothing ventured, nothing banged...
Ash
I still don't know how it happened. One minute I was arguing with my arrogant competitor--our usual trash-talk over who deserves the larger commission. But somehow I went from throwing down to kneeling down...
It can never happen again. I don't even like Braht. He's too slick. He's a manipulating mansplaining party boy in preppy clothes.
So why can't I get him out of my head?
Braht
There are two things I know without question. One: Ash and I are destined for each other. Two: never trust a man with a unibrow.
Ash is my missing my piece. She's the sweet cream to my gourmet espresso. And nothing gets me going faster than her contempt for me. They don't call her the Ashkicker for nothing.
Eventually I'll win her over...if my past doesn't ruin everything first.

Ashley's Review: Roomies by Christian Lauren

Title: Roomies
Author: Christina Lauren
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Gallery Books

Pub Date: December 5, 2017
Rating: 4.5 Stars

Our thoughts...

This writing duo is back with the perfect romance in the most unlikely places. This is easily my favorite book by Christina Lauren.

This is a story about a marriage of convenience and told all in Holland’s point of view. She doesn’t have her stuff together but she trying to figure it out. I loved her character and couldn’t help but to root for her the entire book. She has a crush on a guy she goes to the subway to hear play the guitar.

Calvin’s love is music and he plays the guitar in the subway. He is a worthy crush you can’t help but to like. He is offered the opportunity of a lifetime but isn’t sure he is going to be able to take it.

I absolutely loved this book and all the characters. Holland’s uncles were the perfect secondary characters.  This book will make you laugh and pull at your heart.

Blurb:

“In the end, only three things matter. How much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.” - Unknown
It was a big lie. The biggest lie she’d ever told. It reverberated through her head as she said it, ringing eerily, and the girl behind her eyes—the girl who knew the truth—screamed, and her scream echoed along with the lie.
“Are you in love with Noah, Mercedes?” Cora asked. “I mean . . . I know you love him. You’ve been friends forever. We all have. But are you in love with him?”
If it had been anyone else—anyone—Mercedes would have stuck out her chest, folded her skinny arms, and let her feelings be known. She would have claimed him. But it was Cora. Brave, beautiful, broken Cora, and Cora loved Noah too.
So Mercedes lied.
And with that lie, she lost him. With that lie, she sealed her fate.
She was the best friend, the bridesmaid, the godmother, the glue. She was there for the good times and the bad, the ups and downs, the biggest moments and the smallest parts. And she was there when it all came crashing down.
This is the tale of the girl who didn’t get the guy.

Our thoughts...

Okay…third book in and I am not impressed. I could tell this was an earlier work of the author’s because it didn’t have the polish, the flow, or the development of the other two I have read so far. Was it enjoyable enough? Yes. Was I captivated? No. In fact, I often spaced out through this one but I’m pretty sure I didn’t miss much.

Our thoughts...

This is the second book of Zapata’s that I’ve been cruising through lately and I enjoyed it. The heroine is strong and admirable, and the hero is a brute on the outside and a loyal softy on the inside. This dynamic leads to a lot of engaging, entertaining, and fun scenes.

Our thoughts...

Roomies is a marriage of convenience story that follows the standards for this trope to a T. It isn’t too dramatic or over-the-top but is still rife with emotion, angst, struggles, and an actual plot.
