J.H. Croix is a new to me author so I thought I would
give this book a try. I was a bit nervous about starting with book 3 in a series even though they are standalones,
but I was able to pick up the supporting characters rolls.
Though I think I would be best to read the other two books first.
I do love a good second chance romance, even better having
the character be best friends first. However, this was a bit of a letdown. Everything
moved vary slow and was predictable. I would have loved to witness some scenes
from the past; what made Mae and Rowan want to leave the friend-zone, a bit
more about that night. I wanted to feel their chemistry and witness the angst
and devastation.
Overall, the story and characters are enjoyable and
fun to read about. I truly believe the adding a bit more to the backstory and
picking up the pace a bit would have turned this into a 4-5 star read.
