Strength~Football~Second Chances

This is first book I’ve read by Carrie Aarons and I really enjoyed it. While the read was fast, sexy and funny, she talked about some very serious issues as well.

“The most epic love story I’ve ever written is the one I’m still living.”

This isn’t your typical friends to lover story. There are twists and turns and we have the privilege to watch their story continue to be written. I loved all the feels that came with August and Fiona story. This is definitely a story that you will want devour in one sitting.

From the USA Today Best Selling Author of ‘Truth or Beard’ There are three things you need to know about Fiona Archer… I would tell you what they are, but then I’d have to kill you. But I can tell you that Fiona’s husband—the always irrepressible and often cantankerous Greg Archer—is desperately in love with his wife. He aches for her when they are apart, and is insatiable when they are together. Yet as the years pass, Greg has begun to suspect that Fiona is a ninja. A ninja mom. A ninja wife. A ninja friend. After fourteen years of marriage, Greg is trying not to panic. Because Fiona’s talent for blending in is starting to resemble fading away. However, when unexpected events mean Fiona must take center stage to keep her family safe, her response stuns everyone—Greg most of all. It seems like Greg’s wish has come true. Except… not. When all is said and done, can Greg handle this new version of his wife? Will his irrepressible cantankerousness push her away? Or can the couple find a way forward without either being forced to step back into the shadows? This is a full length, 100k word novel, and is the 5th book in the Knitting in the City Series. All books in the series can be read as a standalone except book #1.5

Our thoughts...

I will be the first to admit that I am in love with Penny Reid. At the very least I am in love with her writing and characters (seeing as I have only ever talked to the woman for a few minutes). With that being said, know that my love is not a blind love but one nurtured consistently by her stories. I had no idea who Penny Reid was until I met her at a book signing last year where her personality sold me on her books and I have not looked back since. This woman and her characters are smart, hilarious, and full of charm.

I usually get super excited when you read the blurb for a book and it has a warning!  In my head I’m like YES!   Dirty Ugly Toy is a novel that blurs the lines of right and wrong, deals with abuse, contains dubious consent, and adult subject matter. If you are sensitive to violent sexual situations, the book may not be suitable for you. Some parts of this book are not easy to read and are not intended for everyone. However, those that keep an open mind and stick with it will not be disappointed.”  I saw that warning and I thought, oh heck yes I’m reading this book and then the cover! What! Loved it!

This is not the darkest book that I've ever read, which is alright, but it did blur some lines.  You meet Jessica who is a prostitute living in the UK.  She gets picked up by Braxton to become his new toy.  She is high on heroine and signs a contract to stay with him for 6 months.  While reading you really aren't sure what type of man Braxton is or what happens to these toys at the end of the  month period.  I was intrigued the whole time while reading this.  So many factors are played into why these characters are the way they are.  You feel for them.  You want to reach into the pages and shake them and then hug them all at the time.  This is a standalone novel so you do get a very happy ending, in my opinion.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes it a little dark.  The sex scenes weren't extremely hot or descriptive like some of the other dark romances that I have read.  Overall it was an amazing story that kept you on the edge of your seat.  It took me no time at all to read this book because I needed to know what was going to happen.  Once again, that cover!  Pick this one up, I bet you enjoy!
