Our thoughts...

I was intrigued when I read the blurb for this novel. It felt like dystopian meets fantasy. It did, however, take me awhile to get it finished. There were different POV’s every chapter, and I felt I had to go a little bit slower to take in everything. In all, I was rooting for certain characters more, because some bored me to death.

Can I just say the equal Silyen could have a standalone novel on his own? With so many multiple points of views, we didn’t even get to the creamy center of what Silyen is. I don’t know what it was about his character. Perhaps it was because he is the resident bad boy. A very powerful equal with so many secrets. I felt like he is the only one that had a ton of depth to him. I could read about him in every chapter. Sadly I didn’t get to read him that much.

As for the rest of the characters. The human's vs. The equals are what it came down to.  There was a lot of politics involved in this as well. I can say while the concept was refreshing the character development was not. I think there was one to many narrators. Even though I understand where the author was coming from it was just hard to feel any connection to the characters for me. I’m interested in the next one I just hope the author chooses to use less POV’s next time.  Perhaps one equal and one human. That would be perfect.
