Our thoughts...

WOW! I finished this book a few days ago and I am still in the process of gathering my words. I truly don’t know what to say. This story threw me for a loop. It isn’t your typical student/teacher read.

Honestly, this book starts off slow, the characters weren’t engaging me. I had asked several bloggers who have read this book if the story picked up. At that point, I was at 20% I was nervous because I was hearing all these great things about the book and I was wondering what I was missing.

The good news is YES! The story picks up at about 25%. At that point, I didn’t want to put the book down. I needed to know how this ended for Thomas and Layla.

Thomas is an asshole throughout most of this book. He is struggling with a failing marriage, that fact that he’s teaching and not writing poetry.  The scraps of himself that he offers to Layla are minimal. What she sees in him other than her own pain reflected back beats me.

Layla is confused she blames herself for things that are out of her control. She believes that she is bad, that the things she has done have ruined her of the opportunity for love to be requited.

This story has twists and turns while taking a different look at unrequited love. I recommend reading this one if you are looking for a different take on student/teacher romance.
