Our thoughts...
I am diving in the Mariana Zapata’s catalog and The Wall of Winnipeg and Me is the first one up. I didn’t read the synopsis, I only knew that most of my book friends love this author. I was not expecting what unfolded in front of me, but I was pleased and impressed.
My first impression of the first book I chose of Zapata’s is a good one. I really like the strong female lead and the stubborn male. I like how the story and relationship slowly unfolds; we see nothing instant in their affection for each other but what develops over time is worth investing in. There were a few little things that made me stop and wonder if I heard it right but nothing worth noting.
The narrator did a nice job; she is consistent and gets into the characters. You can tell she read the story before heading into the recording studio, which I greatly appreciate. She adds a lot of personality with inflection and emotion and it livened things up.
The humor and development are well-done, and I enjoyed the book a lot. I’m looking forward to continuing through Zapata’s catalog and seeing how well she keeps things rolling.
