Our thoughts...

The Bourbon Thief is a compelling, fulfilling story that will leave you feeling like your heart is full and content. There is mystery, drama, romance, and hard truths. This story is so complete, no hole left vacant, no question left unanswered, that I was able to walk away after reading it and feel nostalgic.

Reisz has a knack for creating a bond between her readers and characters that makes you need to know more. These aren’t simple, one-dimensional people. Each character is rich and diverse, full of depth and appeal. This is one of those stories that had me gasping in anticipation of what could possibly be happening to the people I care about. I was on edge, ready to go all “Mama Bear” for these characters, particularly Tamara and Levi. Their love runs deep and resonates as such. Their relationship drives home the message of true, enduring love.

Speaking of enduring love: Tamara and Levi are confronted with more obstacles than most couples could endure in a lifetime, let alone a few years. Reisz doesn’t shy away from where a story needs to go but instead grabs it by the reigns and forges the path. Tamara and Levi suffer because the story demands it. If Reisz had taken the “safe” way out, taken the story a less-controversial way, it would not have been the same at all. The writing would have remained phenomenal but the story would have lacked the ability to reach into your chest and squeeze your heart, promising to never let go. Because true love endures, even for the reader.

The Bourbon Thief is a soulful story, one that resonates deep within and makes itself at home in your heart. I am left with happy daydreams of characters I have come to care for. Between the harsh reality of secrets and the damage they can inflict to the trials of true, unconditional love, this story sticks with you. Feelings will be felt in vibrant fashion and it will be glorious. I highly recommend this book; it is a top pick of mine for 2016.
