Jenny's Review: The Lucky Ones by Tiffany Reisz

Title: The Lucky Ones
Author: Tiffany Reisz
Genre: Romance, Mystery
Publisher: Mira Books

Pub Date: February 13, 2018
Rating: 2 Stars

Our thoughts...

Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Tiffany Reisz. I love The Original Sinners series, The Bourbon Thief, and The Headmaster. I think she has a very intelligent, sophisticated, yet easy-to-relate-to style of writing full of humor and sass. The Lucky Ones, however, do not meet the standards Reisz has set up her readers to come to expect. It pains me to say that or to talk negatively about anything Reisz writes because I respect her a lot, but this book was disappointing. Prepare for some spoilers ahead because some things I took great issue with that I couldn’t NOT talk about them. You’ve been warned.

Keep Her Safe is good, folks. Tucker knows how to write mystery and suspense with a dash of romance and this story is no different. In fact, it’s one of my favorites by her.

Anjee's Review: Taking Turns by J.A. Huss

Title: Taking Turns
Series: Turning #1

Author: J.A. Huss
Genre: Erotica
Publisher: J.A. Huss

Pub Date: January 18, 2017
Rating: 4 Stars

Our thoughts...

I read something a little bit out of my wheelhouse this past week. I have read J.A. Huss before, but it’s been a long time. I was intrigued by the mystery of the book rather than the erotica branding on the genre, so I decided to give it a try. Although it felt a little bit rushed, I did enjoy reading it.

Terri's Review: Away from the Dark by Aleatha Romig

Title: Away from the Dark
Series: The Light #2

Author: Angie McKeon
Genre: Suspense
Publisher: Thomas and Mercer

Pub Date: October 18, 2016
Rating: 5 Stars

Our thoughts...

Repeatedly Mrs. Romig blows me away with her story telling. I enjoyed into the Light, However I thought I had the story figured out for the most part very early on. This is rare for me with one of her books; that being said, I LOVED Away From the Dark, all the emotions that this story pulled out of me. Book two is my favorite of the duet.

What do you get when you mix Bourbon with Mystery? A very intriguing storyline!
I bought this book based off of the cover. It just drew me in. Top it off with the word thief, and there is no turning back for me.

The Bourbon Thief is a compelling, fulfilling story that will leave you feeling like your heart is full and content. There is mystery, drama, romance, and hard truths. This story is so complete, no hole left vacant, no question left unanswered, that I was able to walk away after reading it and feel nostalgic.

Sluggish ~ Grandiose ~ Foundational

This book is like “The Little Engine That Could.” The first fifty pages are rough and disjointed, randomly flashing back at unnatural but convenient times. There is a lot of eluding and not enough happening. The story tries to find its footing but just can’t gain any momentum. It takes Ward about 100 pages to find her flow and really start to take the story/stories somewhere worthwhile. The shift in writing quality makes me wonder if she took a writing break. Everything after the first 100 pages is different in flow, personality, and quality of storytelling and manages to turn a turbulent beginning into a fine finish.

Loyalty ~ Revenge ~ Origami

"Intense, gritty, and full of heart."

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. They lie. For 21 days she held on. But on Day 22, she would have given anything for the sweet slumber of death. Because on Day 22, she realizes that her only way out means certain death for one of the two men she loves.
A haunting tale of passion, loss, and redemption, The Paper Swan is a darkly intense yet heartwarming love story, textured with grit, intrigue, and suspense.

Three Rivers and City of Champions are part of A Gateway To Love Novel.  They are both standalones that are in the same series.  Both of the books have a storyline that revolve around a light mystery and love.  Three Rivers also touches on the idea of moving forward in life when it’s the last thing you want to do. City of Champions is about finding a balance between life and work.

Claire DeWitt lives a life lacking shame. Or perhaps, it is just the opposite. Perhaps she just wants us to believe she is shameless in order to allow her to believe it herself, to care less about herself and those around her.
