Her Naughty Holiday is another fun read from Tiffany Reisz’s Men at Work trilogy from Harlequin Blaze. You can find my review for the first in the series, Her Halloween Treat, HERE. For those of you unfamiliar with the Harlequin Blaze line of books, they describe it as, “You like it hot! Harlequin Blaze stories sizzle with strong heroines and irresistible heroes playing the game of modern love and lust. They're fun, sexy and always steamy.” Tiffany Reisz definitely delivers on all of those marks!
This is a shorter story, clocking in at only 224 pages and Reisz does a good job of establishing a solid history between the two main characters so they aren’t just jumping into things, leaving the reader wondering, “Why on Earth are these two people so deeply attracted to each other?” They actually have a year of history under their belt before this story happens, so their actions and the speed of their relationship is much more reasonable. The reader is reminded of their history a lot, however, and I found it to be a bit redundant but I can understand the need to remind the reader, being that it is a short story and things are happening quickly. Either that or maybe my brain is finding a way to give Reisz a pass because I adore her and respect her writing. I’m happy either way.
With that being said, I also noticed less blending of the sex and the character growth than I have come accustomed to seeing from Reisz. It was a little chunky; there would be a large block of sex and shenanigans and then a large block of personal growth and development (particularly the last…half or third maybe?). This could be due to the shorter story length as well, but my bias is also letting me go easy on this, too.
So why, if I’m complaining about those two things, am I rating this four stars?! Good questions, because I am clearly doing a poor job selling this story. Clover is a strong, independent, successful, kind, smart, (insert other wonderful adjectives here) person and Erick is pretty much the same, only a little more sarcastic and feisty due to raising an angsty but lovable teenage daughter on his own. Clover and Erick have a mutual respect for each other that is first and foremost in their relationship and that is awesome! These two people genuinely like each other and lust for each other, which is not a combination readers always get in quick and dirty romance books.
Speaking of quick and dirty. Yes, it is and yes, it is. You will not be disappointed here. No, Ma’am (or Sir). You’re just going to have to trust me on this one. Or don’t, and go read it for yourself. That’s an even better idea.
Her Naughty Holiday is fun, quick, and smart. Go pick it up and enjoy a well-written dirty romance just in time for the holidays.
